Before you start blogging you need a niche! If you have an existing business, your choice is easy! For example if you own a juice bar you may want to write about the health benefits of juices. You need to ask yourself some questions:
Why Do You Want to Write Online
- Firstly – what is your purpose for writing online?
- Do you want to monetize this blog?
- What is your area of expertise?
What Are Your Interests
- What are you already doing? What are your hobbies? You may wish to write about cooking, reading or sewing.
What Are Your Skills
- What is your area of expertise? Write down a list of things that you are good at that you can teach others. Write for half an hour. You will be surprised at your area of expertise. You may have skills in language, art, communication, report writing, finance or business that you can blog about online. Other topic examples are raising teenagers, music, entertainment, brewing beer or travel. The list is absolutely endless!
Your Online Niche
- When you choose a niche to blog about make sure that it is reasonably broad. You do not want to run out of things to write about too quickly! For example there is only so much that you can write about calendars. On the other hand books are a topic where you will not quickly run out of information.
- Consider what others might like to read. Do you have a solution to a common problem that people face? Have you done something in your life that would inspire others? Can you entertain and help others at the same time?
- What are you passionate about? Your blog is going to take up a significant amount of time. Make sure that it is something in which you have expertise and can spend a lot of time writing about. If your blog is not something that you have a huge amount of interest in, it is going to be more hard work than fun.
